Spot On At Spot 30/05/2011

Arriving in Aarhus after 9 hours in the bus from Berlin, we realized that the festival is going to be very intense for us. To welcome all international delegates, a dinner/buffet is organized in a small venue at the other side of the town, a good way to discover the city, walking along the canal to the venue.
Teitur is playing the opening concert, joined later by KT Tunstall. Great, just arrived when he played my favourite song.
During the reception, we discover the new concept: Interspot, a kind of cooperation between Danish & international artists, with Kisskisskiss & Ginga (AT), and Let My Guitar Play & Talking To Turtles (DE). The evening ended on a smiling and positive note with the old fashioned rock punk band: The Blue Van. Spot on!
On Friday, we are ready to welcome our own international guests with a small german breakfast, early in the morning. Weisswürste (white sausages) might not strictly be german (or that's what the Bavarian purists said..), but there was nothing left by the end! At the Kleine Bierstube, a great, typical Bavarian bar, we were happy to see a mixture of people from all over Europe (Finland, Estonia, UK, Germany, France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium,...). A very good way to meet people we would be bumping into over the next few days, as Spot Festival is taking place in a very small area. Very easy to go from one venue to the other, nothing is really far away and that is making it very practical to see the bands you want to see. Added to this, the acoustics in each stage is excellent. Entering the big stage for the first time from the upper level (to see Jenny Wilson for example) is a great experience! Just sit and enjoy! We did a lot of sitting and enjoying!
Even the partly cold and rainy weather could not destroy the nice atmosphere of the festival. Curious delegates and audience make all concerts very well visited, and people listen to bands with attention, and don't mind to go cross the park in the rain to reach the outdoor stages.
The audience up in the north seems to be more quiet than in the south of Europe, but some bands really managed to get a great reaction: Mugison (IC), Hess Is More / Rasmus Zwicki (DK), Nisennenmondai (JP), Jenny Wilson (SE) were examples.
Other special moments were offered by Danish bands From Sarah, and Glass Arena, as well as Budam (FO), Bernhoft (NO), and Talking To Turtles (DE).
A very big thanks to the Spot Festival team, especially Christian & Jesper for their hospitality and support, as well as to all delegates we met and the great local audience that made Spot what it is.
See you next year!
